Step 1: Accessing the Brand Kit
Log into canva.com
In the left sidebar, click "Brand Hub" or go directly to "Brand Kit"
Canva Pro users can create multiple brand kits; Free users can build a single kit (or a visual reference board)
Step 2: Add Your Visual Identity
LOGOS - Upload all versions of your logo: full color, black/white, stacked, icon-only - Label them clearly so they’re easy to use later
COLOR PALETTE - Add 3–5 core brand colors using HEX codes (e.g., #1A2B3C) - Optional: Give them names ("Ocean Blue," "Sunset Coral")
PRO TIP
If you need help determining your HEX codes, at Kelly Nonprofit Marketing Nerds has a good tutorial for doing this right in Canva!
TYPOGRAPHY - Select your brand fonts for: - Headings - Subheadings - Body Text - Stick to 2–3 fonts max for cohesion - Canva Pro users can upload custom fonts
IMAGERY STYLE (Optional) - Upload 3–5 photos, illustrations, or textures that match your brand vibe -Consider tone, lighting, composition, and diversity

Step 3: Add Your BRAND VOICE
Click "Add your brand voice". In the text box, describe your brand's unique personality and communication style, staying within the 500-character limit, and then save the changes.Â
This becomes your tone-of-voice cheat sheet—for yourself and anyone you collaborate with.
For example:
Voice Keywords: e.g., warm, bold, friendly, confident
Sample Tagline or Statement:Â e.g., "We empower women to build bold brands."
Writing Style Notes: Â e.g., Use contractions, Keep sentences short, Avoid industry jargon, Use emojis? (yes/no)
Sample Phrases to Use: You’ve got this. Let’s make it happen.
Sample Phrases to Avoid: Solutions, Leverage, Impact (my personal nemesis!)
Voice Examples: (1 professional caption, 1 playful caption)

Step 4: Apply Your Kit in Designs
When designing in Canva, go to "Styles" to instantly apply your brand fonts and colors
Create template folders for social posts, flyers, email banners, etc.
Encourage consistent usage with your team
PRO TIPS
