The Work & the Why

Let's start with some Q&A...

Silvi at The West End, Hyannis
Silvi Johnson: Director of Marketing • Organizer of Big Ideas • Calm in the Storm • Wearer of Fun Hats

Margot: In your work, what moment recently reminded you why you do this?

Silvi: At one of our monthly team check-ins, we paused to walk through our clients’ needs together and everyone instinctively stepped into problem-solving mode. Those moments remind me that this work isn’t just about deliverables; it’s about showing up for people with care, clarity, and collaboration. I believe in our mission, and seeing it lived out by the team is ***chef's kiss***

Margot: Community is such a big part of your work. What does community look like to you?

Silvi: Community is our team supporting each other behind the scenes, our clients trusting us with their stories, and our friends and family who make up the fabric around it all. Our community is built on mutual respect and the shared willingness to show up for one another.

Margot: What do you cherish about working with small businesses and nonprofits on Cape Cod?

Silvi: Even though I’m no longer living on the Cape (hello from colorful Colorado!), I’m still deeply invested in that community. I spent 11 years learning about the unique region and working alongside people who care fiercely about where they live. The small businesses and nonprofits on the Cape are the reason Cape Cod continues to flourish – and being part of their growth and storytelling is something I’ll always cherish.

This work isn’t just about deliverables; it’s about showing up for people with care, clarity, and collaboration.

Margot: What personal experience has most shaped how you show up to your work?

Silvi: Life has punched me in the face a few times, but I’ve been able to meet those moments with resilience. Experiences with family, loss, and change have shaped how I listen, how I lead, and how I support others, especially when things feel unclear. I show up with empathy, patience, and a steady hand, because I know how much it matters to feel supported when the rug gets pulled out from under you.

Margot: When the work feels overwhelming, what keeps you grounded?

Silvi: Faith in my team and how we operate our business. If I’m ever overwhelmed, it’s temporary, because our team is deeply collaborative and always willing to step in and support one another.

Margot: You’re known for turning big creative ideas into beautifully organized realities. What’s the magic in making things happen behind the scenes?

Silvi: Most likely, it’s my intrinsic need for control. I can’t control a lot of things (I’ve tried) but I can help manage what’s within reach. Should I also put a little blame on Janet Jackson? She taught me that I could be in control if I did some sassy dance moves… or something like that. I’m definitely misremembering the lesson. Sorry, Ms. Jackson. I am for real.

Margot: What would your younger self be proud to know about who you are now?

Silvi: She’d be so pleased to know that life, in spite of its sorrows and unpredictability, never took away my kindness. She’d also be STOKED to know I have a killer WFH job, a loving husband and kiddo (yes, we named him Elliott, high five, lil’ me!), plus the sweetest pup around. Dogs for the win!

Margot: What always makes you smile or laugh, no matter what?

Silvi: A tumbleweed and Will Ferrell.

Quick hit 'this or that'?

Dream big or focus on details?

I’m a details gal! Gotta let the dreamers dream – I like to make sure we can actually pull it off.

burriots or ice cream?

Burritos. Have you ever f*cked up a burrito in the pale moonlight?

CAPE COD SUNRISE OR COLORADO SUNSET?

Respectfully, pleading the 5th.

analytics or creativity?

Creativity! But never underestimate the power of a color-coded spreadsheet.

Early bird or night owl?

Early bird, baby! Catch me outside caw cawing with the crows at sunrise.

brainstorm on the beach or in the boardroom?

Neither. My greatest ideas arrive as shower thoughts. Bathrooms > boardrooms. Always gotta sneak in a little toilet humor…
