One Last Scoop of Summer

August 2026

August on Cape Cod came in hot, crowded, and moving much too quickly. Around here, we found relief where we could - preferably in a freshly made waffle cone or beneath a swirl of soft serve.
Our team may not agree on the perfect summer treat. Chocolate chip? Vanilla with a cherry dip? Crazy combos like pineapple sherbet and coconut soft serve (as pictured by Tracy's local haunt, Betty Ann's in Buzzards Bay)? We have strong opinions. But we do agree that some of the best parts of summer are the simplest ones: a favorite local ice cream stop, time with people we enjoy, and a reason to slow down, even briefly.

Now, as August winds down, the evenings are getting a little cooler, the traffic is easing (a little!), and we're settling into that sweet spot between summer's frenzy and the start of fall. There's still plenty happening around the nest, though.
This month, we’re delighted to welcome Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Northern New Jersey to the flock. We’re excited to help this remarkable organization tell its story, expand its reach, and make sure more people know where to turn when they need support.
And because sometimes the smallest things make a big difference, this month’s Crow Call looks at one small but mighty piece of every email: the subject line.
So grab one last scoop or swirl and spend a little time with us. Summer isn't quite over yet...and we're glad you're here.
Warmly,

Meet JFCSNNJ
The Crows are delighted to welcome Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Northern New Jersey to the flock.
Guided by Jewish values and serving people of every religion and background, JFCSNNJ provides compassionate human services to more than 4,500 people each year across Bergen, Hudson, and Passaic counties. Its work spans three essential areas: mental health, support for older adults, and assistance with basic needs, including food security, financial health, and vocational support.

The organization is entering an exciting period of growth, with ambitious goals to increase community awareness, make services easier to understand and access, expand partnerships, and engage more donors, volunteers, and community champions.
JFCSNNJ is already changing thousands of lives each year. We’re excited to help tell their story.

It’s been a busy stretch for our clients — and there’s plenty more ahead.
The Cape Cod Speaker Series wrapped up its 2026 season with a packed house for Brad Stevens, drawing more than 420 people of all ages for an afternoon of conversation, basketball, and leadership. Seeing generations of Cape Codders come together for the final event of the season was a pretty great way to close it out.
Next up, WE CAN and the Cotuit Center for the Arts pair up for Women Rock the Tent! September 6 - and it’s officially SOLD OUT! These two loved organizations are both celebrating big milestones (WE CAN's 255th and CCftA's 30th). We’re thrilled to see so much support for an event that brings the community together to celebrate the arts and empower women!
On September 12, Provincetown Swim for Life returns for another inspiring day of swimming, community, and giving. This marks our fourth year working with Swim for Life, and we’re proud to once again help spread the word about this uniquely Provincetown tradition. Learn more at swim4life.org
And the fall calendar is just getting started, with plenty of openings, events, and projects still to come. Stay tuned!

The best communication doesn’t just get attention.
It helps people find their way.

Your Subject Line Has One Job:
Earn the Open.
You can spend hours creating a great email, but if the subject line doesn’t earn the open, none of it matters.
Keep it short. Make it clear. Give readers a reason to click. A little personality is great, but clarity comes first. The best subject lines spark curiosity and hint at the value inside – without veering into clickbait.
Your email can’t do its job if no one opens it. Start strong, then let your content do the rest.

Can we talk some more about ice cream?
Apparently, once we got started, we had a lot to say. Margot asked the flock to weigh in on one of summer's most important questions: scooped or soft serve? And, because we take our research seriously, where are you getting it?
Margot is keeping it classic: Dairy Queen vanilla soft serve with cherry dip. No notes.
Emily refuses to choose sides. For scooped, it's Salted Caramel from Nauset Ice Cream in Eastham or Cookie Dough pretty much anywhere. Soft serve? A coffee-raspberry twist from PJ's in Wellfleet. It sounds questionable. She swears it's delicious.
Tracy finds choosing a favorite nearly impossible. Maple walnut is always welcome, but sometimes the answer isn't a cone at all...it's a malted milkshake or a root beer float.
Silvi describes herself as an "equal opportunity ice cream enjoyer," with one requirement: it should be splorked into a freshly made waffle cone. Oreo and butter pecan top her list, with fond memories of family trips to the Ice Cream Smuggler in Dennis.
Lauren (our fabulous new crow... we'll be properly introducing her soon!) is Team Chocolate Chip wherever she can find it, but 4 Seas in Centerville gets the nod when she's out and about. Unless it's sundae time. Then it's Jimmy's in Cotuit.
Our conclusion? There is no wrong way to do ice cream. Except possibly without the waffle cone. Silvi has strong feelings about that.

Thanks for spending a little time with us.
Here’s to savoring the last sweet days of summer, celebrating good work, and making time for the people and places that make our communities special.
See you in September.
