Facebook: Boosts vs. Ads

Updated: Dec 19, 2018

A lot of people ask about Facebook advertising. And for good reason; those pesky algorithms change constantly, so connecting organically with your target market can't be taken for granted.

Here's a quick primer on boosts vs. ads.

Boosted posts

A boosted post is the most basic type of Facebook advertising. Hook up a credit card and allocate a spend limit, and the hard work is done. Then once you've posted something, just click the ‘Boost Post’ button, answer a few questions, and more people will see it - plain and simple. However, just boosting a post may not get you the results you’re looking for. Basic actions such as likes, shares, and comments may appear, but if you’re trying to reach your target audience, Facebook ads are probably the better solution.

Facebook Ads

Ads require an Ad Manager account - but before you start sweating, don’t worry, we've got this. Ads are a more advanced way to get your message, product, or business out there, offering a vast number of options. Your goal will determine which option, or options, you choose - likes, website visits, app installs, event responses and video views - whatever your specific need.

Our favorite reason to love FB Ads? Add a call to action, a button to help your consumers take the next step. Shop Now, Sign Up, Download, Contact Us - each one helps your future client take the first step to finding you.

Say what, now?

The main difference between boosted posts and ads is targeting and customization. And who wouldn't want that, right? That being said, there are plenty of times when a boost is all you need. Still miffed? Ping the two crows.
